Alfa Romeo Racing

A legend reborn

‘Working together with such a prestigious brand in the pinnacle of motorsport is rewarding for the team as well as the sport.’

Frédéric Vasseur, Team Principal

Alfa Romeo Racing found its perfect partner when Richard Mille joined them as Premium Partner of the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team during the 2018 Formula 1 Season. They could hardly have been more enthusiastic about the coming together of the two brands.

Sauber Motorsport AG is a Swiss motorsport engineering company, founded in the 1970's by Peter Sauber. His CV is unusual to say the least. If things had gone according to plan, Peter would today be running his parents’ traffic light business. But the ambitious young man got the green light to set up Sauber C1 (the C stands for Christiane, his wife) in his parents' basement. He progressed through hill-climbing and the World Sportscar Championship to reach Formula One in 1993.

In 2017, Sauber F1 Team signed a multi-year technical and commercial partnership with Alfa Romeo, returning the Italian car manufacturer to F1 after an absence of more than 30 years.

In 2016, Frédéric Vasseur made his first step into Formula One, becoming Team Principal of the newly founded Renault Sport Formula One Team. In 2017, he joined Sauber as Team Principal of the F1 Team and CEO of Sauber Motorsport AG.

The two drivers of the team for the 2019 season are Kimi Räikkönen, ‘The Iceman’ winner of the 2007 Formula One World Championship and wearing his tourbillon RM 50-04, and Antonio Giovinazzi, 2015 FIA Formula 3 European Championship and 2016 International GP2 Series runner-up.
